5 Steps to Your Dream Bathroom

by Tess Young, guest blogger

2_tone_cabs-resized-600Since the bathroom is one of the most essential rooms in any home, you are going to want to make sure that it looks good. Some people are going to have two bathrooms: one for their guests, and one for themselves. Others are going to have to make do with one. Most people are quite conscious about the way their bathroom looks and will therefore want to make sure that it is properly looked after. Remodeling your bathroom is also going to take some time if you decide to change the style, so there are a couple of things that you can do in order to make sure that the project is carried out successfully.

Before you do anything, the first thing you need to do is plan out your bathroom. Decide what kind of decor you want, whether you want to change the tiles or get new sinks and bathtubs in. All of this is of course going to take some time, so you will be able to ponder over the different choices. If you want to gain inspiration while you plan out your bathroom, then make sure to take a look at the Home Depot Deals that are available. You may also be able to save a considerable amount of money.

You need to think of the facilities that are going to to go in your bathroom. Some people may prefer a large shower which gives them a good bit of space. There are also extras available, such as the multi-headed shower that can give you an even greater experience. Others may be interested in installing a bath tub, or a jacuzzi. It depends on the tastes of the individual, but while you are planning always make sure that you choose the right facilities for your own bathroom.

You always need to think of the price before you decide to do something. Remodeling your bathroom and designing it in a specific way is of course going to cost you money. What you need to do is realistically estimate how much a project like this is going to cost. You will have to set out a budget and then determine what you can afford and what you can’t.

One of the most important aspects when it comes to any kind of remodeling job, contractors are going to be essential. You will need to take a look at the different types of contractor that you will require. General laborers will be necessary, but you are also going to have to find a plumber.

Discounts can be found if you know where to look, so your next challenge is going to be planning ahead and finding out where you can get a lower price. You may be surprised at what you can find when you just do a little bit of searching online.

BATHROOM DESIGN | Exploring Glass Vessel Sinks

Kohler has some beautiful glass vessel sinks and they are worthy of consideration in a powder room.

1. I’m not a big fan of elevated vessel in a bathroom that gets a lot of everyday use because they are hard to clean around but they are durable enough that you could use them in any bathroom if you like the look.

Don’t forget if you are installing a faucet on the counter you will need a tall one like the silhouette of one in the top picture.   Another option is to install the faucet through the wall just above the sink, which is done a lot in contemporary design.  For a counter installation you may need to install the faucet on an angle.

This is a beautiful way to spiff up your bathroom so give it some thought!

BATHROOM DESIGN | How to Choose the Right Bathroom Tile

Today I have a guest post from David Anderson of Bathroom Tiles

” How to Ensure You Pick the Right Bathroom Tile”

When it comes to decorating any room in the house it’s important to get the colour schemes right, so there’s no clash.  Textures, too, can play a big part here and are worth taking into account when selecting floor or wall coverings.

It’s amazing how difficult it can be to choose the right colour.  The colour you have in mind might not match anything else and you will be wasting money if you don’t first spend time selecting the right one.

There are several things to take into consideration when choosing the right Bathroom Tiles so bear them in mind when you start thinking about which onces to buy.

Try to obtain a sample tile from your supplier.  This will enable you to take it home and try it out against the other colours included.

Place the tile up against the wall by the window, if possible, to see the colour match.  Taking a paint colour chart to the shop and trying to find a match against a tile is nigh on impossible.  The lighting in the shop will prevent you seeing the true colours.  Daylight is by far the best light and will give a true result.

Try the tile out in the bathroom first.  If it’s the floor you’re tiling, put the tile on the floor and see how it looks.  Move it about so you get a general idea of how it will match in all parts of the room.  If it’s a wall tile, try it out in various parts of the area you are tiling.  You can then get a rough idea if that particular style and colour is going to work.

Don’t try to choose a tile that is too modern if you live in a period home.   It’s best to suit your decor to the type propery you live in, otherwise they will look out of place.  This also goes for the decor in the rest of the room.  If you have gone for a classical bathroom suite, choose tiles to match.  If it is very modern, choose accordingly.

Consider the size of the room.  If it’s small, lighter colours will make it appear bigger.  A large, lofty room can have a cold feel, but choosing warm coloured floor tiles can give a cozy feel.  Similarly darker tiles will make a large room appear smaller.

Decide whether you want patterned or plain tiles.  Plain tiles will act as a canvas against which to display a decorative mirror or fancy bathroom suite.  Patterened or brightly coloured tiles will act as a focus themselves and will draw the eye.

Finally don’t forget to ask advice from the sales team in the shop you’re buying from.  They have a wealth of knowledge and experience and will be able to steer you away from potential mistakes that could prove to be expensive.  They will be only too glad to help, so don’t be shy.

Thanks, Dave, those were very good points!
